The Walker Art Gallery, located in Liverpool, was constructed between 1873 and 1877 by philanthropist and brewer, Andrew Barclay Walker. It was designed to host the annual Liverpool Autumn Exhibitions, which saw remarkable success and growth. This success provided the opportunity for the Walker Art Gallery to build a comprehensive collection of contemporary British art.
